Are rent controls coming to Glasgow?

Not yet, and nothing has been designated. Since 1 April 2026, councils have been assessing local rents and can request rent information from landlords – you'll have 28 days to respond, with fines for not doing so. Councils report to the Scottish Government by 31 May 2027. If an area is then designated, rent increases there would be capped at CPI plus 1%, up to a maximum of 6% a year, including between tenancies. Some property types, such as mid-market rent and certain build-to-rent homes, are exempt.
