As of 1st October 2018 it’s illegal for Scottish Letting Agents to continue trading unless they have registered with the Government’s new Scottish Letting Agent Register: it has been introduced to drive up standards in the industry. Any active Agency who has not yet applied is breaking the law and could be liable for large fines.
Yates Hellier had been preparing for over a year and applied months ago, however we have been made aware that a worrying percentage of agents have not yet registered. If you have properties with other Glasgow Letting Agents we advise you check to make sure that they’re registered.
What is the Scottish Letting Agent Register?
The Scottish Letting Agent Register offers reassurances that all registered agents have been thoroughly vetted by the Scottish Government who will review, amongst other things, previous experience, industry specific qualifications, Client Money Protection insurances and that the agent has a dedicated client bank account.
If you think that your current Glasgow Letting Agency is not compliant or registered, feel free to get in touch with our Property Management Team on [email protected] or 0141 248 8726.
Yates Hellier’s is registered on Scottish Letting Agent Register: our reference is LARN1812011.
